Memorial Day Dilemma
Happy Memorial Day America. Let me start by saying a big THANK YOU to the armed forces, but remember that this day is about the ones who gave their life so that you and I could be free. Memorial Day is about them, it is in their memory that I write to you today.
With all the hoopla over the current upcoming presidential election, and the division that has occurred as a result of, not just the controversy around the candidates, but years of Americans trying to separate the “left” from the “right”, I want to try to unite us with some history. My goal is simple, it is to have you read this and remember all the veterans who fought for our country, especially the ones who lost their lives so that you and I can be free. It is about the dignity in their character which is in our character, we, the American people, not the “left” or the “right”. It is about the respect we have fought for and earned from the rest of the world, the respect we are on the brink of losing from all the division. We, as Americans, at this crucial point in time, have a duty to go back and study our history, learn from it, heal our land and souls, unite together, for the common good of future generations the way George Washington and our founding fathers AND mothers did. Where would we be today if not for them?
George Washington wrote in a letter to James Madison, 30 November 1785 according to Wikiquote as saying “We are either a united people, or we are not. If the former, let us, in all matters of general concern act as a Nation, which have national objects to promote, and a national character to support. If we are not, let us no longer act a farce by pretending to it.”
I couldn’t agree more. It is a choice, and we all have to choose, either we are united or we stop pretending.
God weighs in through Paul with a command out of Romans 13:1 (NIV) regarding the support of government, whoever that may be in November,
“Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.”
God also promises us in 2 Chron 7:14,(NIV)
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
Now is the time for us, for Americans, for we, the people to remember that we all live together in this great nation, a land we came to seeking freedom, a land that God himself exalted to a super power by the fact we have always placed Him first. I said this with my son a few years ago during a debate, and I will share it with you. I told him, “I am not a democrat, I am not a republican, I am just an American who wants her country back.” I want my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to know the freedom I have known, the greatness I have known and to show respect for all these wonderful giving, loving souls who died for it, who died for me and you. I want future generations to know the true meaning of Memorial Day.
Isn’t that what you want?
Blessings as always,
Fran
