Independence Day 2016

I sit here today wrapping up my time in Hawaii and it is the 4th of July, Independence Day. I’m reflecting on where we have come as a nation, the strides we have made, the odds we have beaten, all due to hard work, a desire to succeed, provide for and advance ourselves. We have failed on some things, we have been attacked and beaten down but Americans always come back stronger, never give up and this has formed our unbreakable will and rugged winning spirit.

We have succeeded as the leader in so many ways and all in a little over two hundred years. We have invented so many things to advance the world, beginning with barbed wire, the telegraph and Morse code, light bulbs, the first successful airplane, air conditioning, mechanical and electronic televisions, desktop computers (you can argue over it was Xerox or Microsoft), and one of my favorites, probably from being in healthcare, the polio vaccine. We’ve led the world in advancements and represented peace and equality, although it took time to get to the latter after the civil rights movements of the sixties. Our military has sent strong messages to the world of the powerful moral values America stands for, most importantly that we will die to sustain our freedom, for ourselves and future generations.

I don’t think you can be an American and not feel a sense of pride, especially on the fourth of July. This is our day, a day we reflect on our freedom, the first being our freedom from the tyranny that came with our allegiance to the British Crown. The freedom to believe that common men and women could attain anything they wanted, to believe all of us have the right to life, liberty and pursue happiness.

In the conclusion of the document, we appeal to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions and for support of this Declaration, and we put a firm reliance on protection of divine providence. We, as Americans, have always acknowledged our creator, God, from the very beginning.

My question to you is why do we have to stop now? If we are, and we definitely still are a free nation, why do we have to stop talking about God? Where does all this talk come from? Why does it scare people to acknowledge our faith has been our biggest ally, the thing that has sustained us and moved us forward? It is something for all of us to think about. Let’s keep our freedom alive, freedom to believe in and acknowledge God, the creator and protector of all of us.Let’s do it together as Americans who love their country and want to honor our forefathers who fought so hard for us. Let’s stay strong.

Peace to you and your family on this beautiful fourth of July, better known as Independence Day.

Blessings,

Fran
