As the Lake temperatures slowly warm, and it has been slow, it wont be long before the perch schools form and the migrating walleye move in from the Western Basin. Walnut Creek Walnut Creek Marina Basin Information: Twelve year old Austin Greathouse of Butler, PA brought in this 5 pound 9 ounce Brown Trout for Angler Award. With overnight temperatures in the 50's and things starting to cool off, steelhead have been staging near the mouths of Walnut Creek and Trout Run. The weather has not been co operating with the fisherman this week. The color for him was White/blue. Current Lake Erie water temperatures as of this writing are 71 degrees off of Toledo, 68 degrees off of Cleveland, and 67 degrees off the Port of Erie. Every now and then you hear of someone getting one but not too often. He caught it on a minnow in 53 ft of water off the Point. He caught it in 59 ft of water off the Light House off the Peninsula. Natural baits should be kept small and dead drifted with the current. He caught it straight out of Walnut Creek in 55 ft of water on Emerald shiner. The slip-holders docks are in also. He was out in 75 ft of water off Godfrey Run. Randy at Fish West PA informed me that, with the slight drop in lake water temperature this past week, some hybrid stripers began feeding. He caught it in 27 ft of water off Trout Run on a worm harness. Justin Penn, 13 years old, of Freeport, Pa brought in a nice 8 pound 11 ounce Walleye that was 28 inches long and had a girth of 17 inches. Bill Freshwater of Valencia, Pa brought this nice 8 pound 6 ounce Walleye in for Angler Award. Bass limits for Lake Erie, it's tributaries, and Presque Isle Bay are 4 fish (combined species small and large mouth) with a 15" minimum length beginning Saturday June 14th, 2008. Most of the boats are out in 20-30 ft of water going from Walnut Creek, west to Godfrey or even Elk and then back. Current west county trib conditions are clear with some flow, and very fishable levels. Anywhere from 44 ft out to 60 ft. of water. The Perch seem to be out in 50-60 ft of water off Trout Run, Elk Creek and out of Walnut Creek. Of course this procedure is for small hooks. Many limits of nice perch have been reported in 42 to 45 feet of water between the point and the lighthouse along Presque Isle. Walleye seem to be gradually moving to deeper water with success this past weekend coming form 40 to 45' of water. With the mild winter, the steelhead have really spread out.
