Ask Not What Jesus Can Do For You

Ask not what Jesus can do for you, but what can you do for Jesus.

Do you ever find yourself making request after request and saying things like, “Jesus, help me fix this [problem]”, “please do that”, or my favorite, “I rebuke you in the mighty name of Jesus”?

We all know the power of the Almighty God.

“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you
created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”
Revelation 4:11 (NIV)

We also know we can do all things through Jesus Christ.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Philippians 4:13 (NKJV)

We also know, through His word that He already knows what our needs are before we even make the requests.

“If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.”
1 John 3:20 (NIV)

But this morning while reflecting on all the things I’ve been ask of Him lately, it occurred to me that I don’t ask Him what “He wants from me”.

I find myself in so many situations saying, “In the name of Jesus, you are well, working properly and you will NOT have a problem today, you will NOT get sick today and so forth”.

Yes I do believe Jesus is the answer to all things but when I realized how often those words rolled off my tongue I thought, “I haven’t asked lately what I can do for you”.

And that one stuck in my throat a little. I immediately felt, “Hmmm, that’s not good”.

Now don’t get me wrong, I acknowledge my work in recovery as it is my own program that dictates it.

Heck, my job at the hospital as caregiver is also giving back as I care for His sheep, so in all honesty I am doing work for Jesus. But I haven’t actually asked him, I have been “deciding” what was and wasn’t His will, His work and what needed to be done.

However, I was not conscious of it until this morning when through reflection about life, it caught my attention.

So today I ask Him, “Jesus–what can I do for you, after all, look what huge thing you did for me on the cross”.

So I ask you, what can YOU do for Jesus today after all He did for us?

As always
